In All Things
Dear ones in Christ,
A blessed New Year to you all !

I was doing a search of the phrase "in all things" and these four passages pasted at the bottom popped up in the NIV electronic Bible that I use.  Please note that . . .

. . . we are called to to believe that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose, and he loves us with an utterly, unmerited favor, to the end that we would abound in every good work.  I was talking with someone from our congregation today on the telephone who reminded me that life issues don't always fall into place at the pace we would expect.  We are called to continue to trust, and in the midst of that trust, receive his grace to continue to abound in every good work.

And what is the effect in our lives?  The growth of our character into the likeness of Christ (Eph. 4:15), and the praise of Christ (1 Peter 4:11) . . .  in all things.

The truth of God, including that found in Rom. 8:28, 2 Cor. 9:8, Eph. 4:15, and 1 Peter 4:11 has a powerful effect upon us.  The Holy Spirit takes ahold of our heart and reassures us that "in all things",

he works for good,
he loves us wholly,
he motivates us to good works
he shapes our character to conformity with Christ, and He
brings forth the praise of His own Name.

I'm preaching to myself here, congregation.  But maybe you can gain from the reflections above also !

Ken and Jo Burl rejoice in the good report that Ken received after an angiogram yesterday....his arteries are clear and his heart is pumping strongly compared to an earlier test which was in error.  We thank God for answered prayers !

May I suggest that a good way to get God's truth into your life (see above !) midweek would be to come to the Men's Bible study (Jonah) and prayer in the sanctuary and the Women's Bible study and prayer in the Log Chapel.

Why not make that a resolution this year, 2010?  That "in all things", at "all times", unless providentially hindered by family or crisis, you may find blessings midweek with your brothers and sisters in Christ. 6:30 p.m.

With love in Christ, Pastor Ned

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Rom. 8:28

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Cor. 9:8

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
Eph 4:15

If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:11
